>>neil: but we know it is not returning to the clinton tax rates. as you pointed out between the sur taxes on the wealthy, medicare and everything else, you are at a were higher rate? >>guest: of course, this is higher. yes. and you are talking about much higher spending. remember, that government spending is taxation. these guys don't create resources. they redistribute the resources. what they have done here with this, they have had a huge increase in taxes which is why we have the very bad who we have today. it is, unfortunately, we are never going to bring the economy back unless we get control of the spending and get toward the low rate flat tax. can you not do it. >>neil: i don't think either side has offered enough on spending. i think it is baked into the cake it is the result of election and elections have consequences. but on the wealthy i think the rates go up but with the latest proposal, why see enough to adhere to what was the debt commission in cuts, is too little too late, but, too little, more to the point. >>guest: it is too little

and this compares to something like bush had like 231 and i think that clinton had 247. so it's not a huge gap, but it's noteworthy. i talked to the white house and said what's up? why are we not putting people up? we need more seats. they were a bit defensive and said we have been up against these senate republicans who aren't doing anything. and i got an analogy putting coffee beans into a coffee maker and it doesn't matter if you put 3,000 beans or 100 beans in the coffee maker, you are going to get one cup at a time and you can't basically put forward lots more nominees and expect the senate to do more because you put forward more. they are going to block all of these things. so it is kind of a 1-2 punch here with the reason we have this problem. it's the senate republican obstructionism. you can look at the nominees. it's senate republicans blocking this. >> it's like i understand why the white house may get tired of putting people up there because they know they are going to be shot down. >> why would adding more nominees go make it go faster? >> it won't. we shoul

that is what bill clinton is saying. he told an audience in sacramento that all the warnings of bloom and doom are political theater. quote now, the american people people are going to be sick when they watch it. it's just a kabuki dance, two dogs meating each other over a piece of meat they are sniffing each other out, end quote. always colorful. is that what is going on? >> reporter: there's been a lot of sniffing here in washington. i don't know if they like what they are spelling down here on either side on the deal. yeah, people have been describing it like that, some people said it's like a scorpian dance, you know, they are kind of stalking each other and waiting to get in that room and make the deal. erskine bowles said something similar that, both sides can't really talk about what it's going to be, because they would get pummeled by the base if either side really knew what they are going to in the end agree to. that is the hopeful optimistic side that a deal will be reached. there is another side that says, thi
